108MW in Oklahoma takes shape

July 7, 2015

US developer Tradewind Energy plans to build a 108MW wind farm in southwest Oklahoma.

The Drift Sands scheme will be located in Grady County, about 60 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. The project area encompasses 10,000 acres of private land under lease from around 25 landowners.

Tradewind expects Drift Sands to be in service by 31 December 2016.

Project manager Heath Herje said: “We are glad to offer low-cost, highly competitive energy to the state of Oklahoma and beyond.”

The Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation, a Little Rock-based wholesale electricity supplier, has agreed to a long-term power purchase agreement for the output.

Co-op president and CEO Duane Highley said: “The wind energy agreements provide our distribution cooperatives and their members with energy resources that are geographically diverse, reasonably-priced and price-controlled over a long-term period.”
