Project Engineer – Solar Development
In the solar energy field, perform resource assessment for large scale solar energy projects through modeling PV (photovoltaic) system performance using different solar modeling tools, including PVSYST; obtain and analyze meteorological files and assumptions for inclusion in PVSYST and other solar energy modeling tools; forecast long term solar resources using measure-correlate-predict methods and other regression models; develop annual and long term solar energy assessments, using PVSYST and other modeling tools; develop uncertainty analyses using statistical and pragmatic approaches to determine probabilistic energy production forecasts; review and provide comments on resource assessments and energy estimates provided by other consultants; perform shading analysis for projects using site observations, drawings, and other data points; perform solar energy through conducting site assessments, prepare risk assessments and competitive market comparisons; provide technical input to support the interconnection application and utility review and approval process; create, organize, and maintain documents associated with projects’ basis of design throughout the project life cycle; assist the business development team in identifying key project design risks enabling effective decisions; utilize and disseminate equipment specifications, concept design drawings, site evaluations, interconnection and single line diagrams; plan, design and optimize PV plant to include modules and racking, inverters, collection system routing, substations and other electrical components; assist development team on milestone schedules, as it relates to engineering, procurement, and construction tasks; work with industry partners to collect market information related to construction costs; review contractor proposals, drawings, and equipment submissions; support procurement and origination initiatives and project developers in creating, managing, and updating BOP/BOS cost models; interface with electrical equipment manufacturers and construction contractors to communicate project details and additional required specifications; and review utility RFPs and advise on contract documents, drawings and specifications related to all aspects of PV systems and equipment.
Requirements: Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering, Power/Energy Systems, or related field, plus two years of related experience. Must have two years’ experience with large scale utility solar projects, of 20 megawatts or more. Must have ability to run multiple scenarios to reach solar energy solutions. Must have experience with designing and programming in connection with industry standards, including ANSI, NERC, IEEE, IEC, and NEC. Must have experience in energy analysis and solar PV design using the following tools, or comparable tools: PVSyst, Plant Predict, SAM (NREL), PVWatts Calculator, SketchUp, HelioScope. Must have experience programming using the following or comparable tools: ETAP, Matlab, AutoCAD, DSA Tools, Power World, SPEL, Simulink, PLECS.
