In a joint announcement Friday by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the combined land and ocean temperatures for the year 2014 were the warmest since records began in 1880. Below are two interesting animations on the subject. The second animation ends with the global map of 2014, which is interesting because even though the global average land and ocean temperature was the hottest ever, the central U.S. was at or below average. This demonstrates that the weather that any of us feel in any one place or time doesn’t necessarily tell the global story.
